Why Power Hopper exists
Power Hopper founder Brent Ward saw thousands of homeowner electricity bills firsthand across North Texas. The same pattern kept showing up: people were trying to make a smart choice, and many were still paying more than they expected.
Again and again, customers believed they had found a better rate — but had unknowingly picked a bill-credit or usage-threshold plan. The “best” rate depended on how much electricity the home used that month.
A low advertised rate does not always mean a low bill.
The details matter — especially when a plan rewards one usage range and costs much more outside it.
Fair to the other plans
Bill-credit plans are not automatically bad. A customer who actively manages consumption and stays in the required usage range can do well on one. Most households don’t want to run their home around a pricing rule.
A home can sit in a plan’s sweet spot in a mild month, then land far outside it in a Texas summer or a cold snap.
Savings in some months can be offset by significantly higher costs in others, which can erase part — or all — of the early savings.
You should be able to see what you pay for energy without reverse-engineering credits, thresholds and usage tiers every month.
